The Linux kernel, under development since 1991, is at the heart of many different Linux distributions. Two large "families" can be distinguished:
- Red Hat
- Debian
Recently, there have been some interesting developments on filesystems. I'm converting my personal fileservers from ext3 to ext4.
As our home computers are being replaced with Apple gear, the need for Samba is diminishing. I'd like to run AFS, but NFS might be a good alternative for our home network ;-)
